13 Roundtables: Open Calls

13 Roundtables was founded by Rabab Tantawy, Natalya Konforti, Alexandra Torre and Ilinca Marinescu to bring together the local creative community and help it thrive.

Our first event will tackle the topic of Open Calls. We’ve invited four artists, writers and curators to share their experiences, strategies, successes and failures on the subject.


Meet Our Guest Speakers:

Augustine Paredes is a multi-disciplinary artist questioning what it means to desire in the light of love, loss, and longing.

He is an alumna of Salama Bint Hamdan Emerging Artist Fellowship, Campus Art Dubai, and International Summer School of Photography, and has been nominated for 13 Artists Awards, World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass. He has been exhibited in the Philippines, Malaysia, Latvia, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates.


Masarratfatima Sulaimani is a visual artist, specializing in paper art and Installation. She has sucessfully showcased her art across various national and International venues such as Sikka Art Festival, WAD, Shanghai paper biennale, etc. Currently she is Artist in Residence at Al Qasimi Foundation RAK.


Drawing from her background in Architecture, Shazia Salam's work seeks play in function. Her interdisciplinary practice of sculpture, installation, and works on paper conceptualizes imaginary futures of belonging. She has a Post Grad Dip. in Fine Arts at the University of the Arts London (2018) and a B.Arch at Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka (2015). She is currently participating in the Critical Practice Programme hosted by Tashkeel.


Sarah Daher is a curator and writer based in Dubai. She is a host of the podcast Khosh Bosh with Anita and Sarah as well as the curator of the Dirwaza Microfund for Creative Access.

The monthly events aim to help artists, designers and creatives tackle common challenges together and provide meaningful connections and opportunities to learn. The program includes talks by industry professionals, networking opportunities, hands-on workshops, critique sessions, connections with collectors and sourcing recommendations.
