Wasteland quilts Series

A collection of artificial heirlooms, this series of quilts is crafted from discarded plastic, our civilization’s most obvious remnant.

The tapestries, hand stitched over many months, required an overwhelming amount of patience and physical dedication to sew. In stark contrast, the oxo-degradable plastic bags from which they are made (stamped with expiration dates – often years outdated) are destined to crumble into micro plastics.

A series of quilted artwork made with upcycled plastic packaging using patterns inspired by 16th century Middle Eastern pottery. The project stems from a thought experiment around the value of plastic; exploring the disconnect between this material's lifespan and the fact that it's considered disposable. The goal is to switch mindsets - viewing plastic’s lifespan as a resource we can’t afford to waste.
