In this new stitching workshop commissioned by Tashkeel Studios, we will focus on using embroidery as a medium to add texture to art and design works.
The art of decorating surfaces with a needle and thread has been around for centuries. Nearly every culture around the world has developed some form of embroidery throughout its history. From prisons, to hospitals, to activism, needlework has always been a powerful means of storytelling.
This workshop will debunk embroidery stereotypes and explore ways to incorporate stitching into a modern art practice. Participants will be introduced to basic tools and techniques of the craft, practice entry-level stitches, and learn to translate a simple line drawing to an embroidery design.
This workshop is suitable for beginner participants with no prior experience.
