Creative Quarantine: Mixing Graphic Styles
Imposing constraints and contrasts is a great warm up exercise to get over "sketcher’s block”.
Sometimes the hardest part of being creative is just starting, focusing on certain restrictions will help you get out of your head and stop worrying about making something pretty. The goal here is not to create a masterpiece off the bat but instead to train yourself to interpret shapes through different lenses.
Step 1: Start by choosing a subject to draw, here I chose a monstera leaf.
Step 2: Draw a vertical line down the center of your paper.
Step 3: On the left half of your page the challenge is to draw your subject only using straight lines and sharp angles. Focus on how to translate any curves into geometrical shapes.
Step 4: On the right half of your paper, we'll do the exact opposite. Here the challenge is to refrain from using any straight lines or sharp angles, only wavy, loopy lines.
